ACO in Concert: Satu Vänskä performs Locatelli's Violin Concerto in D major
19m
Pietro Locatelli's Violin Concerto in D major, dubbed 'The Harmonic Labyrinth, is one of the most fiendishly difficult pieces of music ever written for the violin.
The original manuscript for the concerto is was inscribed with'Facilis aditus, difficilis exitus', which means 'easy to enter, difficult to exit.'
Recorded during the ACO's 2017 ACO Soloists tour, this 19-minute performance showcases Satu's virtuosity in a fierce test of physical and mental focus.
ACO Principal Violin Satu Vänskä takes on Locatelli's fearsome Violin Concerto in D major - the 'Harmonic Labyrinth' - while ACO Principal Cello Timo-Veikko Valve performs Debussy's Sonata for Cello and Piano, arranged for strings.
